I’m Vanessa Brantley-Newton, the illustrator of Carlotta’s Special Dress, written by civil rights icon Carlotta Walls LaNier—and we’re excited to invite you to join us at the Library of Congress on Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. in the Coolidge Auditorium. Tickets are free.
Bring your children and come learn what Carlotta endured as she entered Central High, and why clothing mattered so deeply in the civil rights movement. These children were not expected to succeed because of racism—but they dressed with care because they wanted to be seen as respectful, honorable young people who were simply trying to learn.
All are welcomed and invited to come! Hope to see your there!

The Library of Congress event sounds incredible—Vanessa, your illustrations bring such vivid emotion to stories like Carlotta's. I've been following your work and would love to explore more of your book collection. https://cowork-code.com
