Character Design is everything!!!

I am a people watcher for sure!! I love going into stores and airport just people watching. Watching how they act. How children walk and talk to their parents, teachers and friends. I love looking at older women who are dressed up and looking fabulous and yes even older men. It's something so beautiful and precious to me and this is how I start creating characters for my books and any other children book project I might be working on.

This little character came from my head and then into my sketchbook. I was in an airport when I saw the cutest little girl walking through with her parents and I had to capture her. It's not exact, but a mixture of the essence of her and then my heart and brain the rest. I didn't have a whole lot of time in which to sketch her either. I just took the things that I remember and put them into my sketchbook and made up the rest and here I have created this wonderful character that is about to be featured in a wonderful board book series called,"Clarity Chooses" with Nosy Crow Book in the UK!!! I am so very excited for this. I really enjoy making new characters. figuring out who they will be, what names they will have, what is their history and what do they want? I will teaching and show how to make a simple character very soon. I am just going to draw a simple character and share it here! Keep your eyes peeled and see you soon! Thanks so much for stopping by!
